About the event

Take a deep dive into the history of Babcock State Park and its beginnings with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) on a special site history tour. Established as a West Virginia State Park in 1937, explore the New Deal-era history and structures, some still used to this day. See a swinging bridge, cabins,  office, and more on this then-to-now tour by area resident Jodi French-Burr. (Yes we will see the site’s famous Glade Creek Gristmill, though that was not a CCC-era project.) Hear stories of people from the park’s earliest days to today, a place where history happened. Tour will be a 1-mile walk on mostly level terrain, but be prepared for stairs. Group size limited to 15 participants; reservations required at NRGorgeHS.com Meet next to the Glade Creek Gristmill.
